Roberto Ulivieri
Roberto holds a Master Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, and an MBA from the Open University, UK. He is an energy professional with 30 years of experience gained at oil companies and recognized consultancies. He has strong experience of working in multicultural environments and interacting at different levels in organizations.
In the initial part of his career, he gained technical experience in plant operations, process design and plant construction. Subsequently, his work in market analysis and strategy advisory gave him deep knowledge of refining & petrochemicals economics, broader industry knowledge and ability to think strategically.
He has contributed to the development of many downstream investment plans, by providing relevant market analysis or conducting feasibility studies. He is familiar with price forecasting techniques, financial modelling of downstream assets, and appraisal of projects. He has large experience of conducting technical and commercial due diligence of oil downstream assets.
Roberto has helped many crude oil marketing organizations with understanding, value, price differentials and marketability of their crude oils. He has developed and administered several crude oil quality banks and value allocation mechanisms to estimate the relative value of crude oils commingled in pipelines.

Eni
Roberto started his career in the Technical Services department of the Livorno refinery, Italy. His work was mostly concerned with technical support to operations and troubleshooting. He also conducted several studies aimed at operational improvement or for the definition and economic analysis of capital projects.
His work required him to interact with many of the refinery functions. He supported the development of refinery models.
MW Kellogg Ltd
Roberto worked as a Senior Process Engineer of the refining team. He managed and delivered many process studies for the improvement or revamping of refinery process units.
He was then assigned to the Nigeria LNG project. He worked six months at Bonny Island, Nigeria as Commissioning Supervisor of Train-1 and six more months in the engineering team of Train-3.
Purvin & Gertz
Roberto has worked 11 years at Purvin & Gertz and has been a long serving partner of the firm, until its acquisition by IHS in November 2011. Working at the firm, he built a large experience of market studies and strategic advisory.
He co-developed models and methodologies to analyse market fundamentals. He contributed to the flagship long term forecasting service
Global Petroleum Market Outlook. He managed a major study on the impact of new marine fuels specifications on the refining industry.
Roberto regularly advised the crude oil marketing functions of independent oil companies on matters related to crude oil pricing and marketing.
He carried out a very large number of technical and commercial due diligence assignments on a diverse pool of assets, to include refineries, petrochemicals, pipelines and terminals.
Combining market knowledge, strategic vision and technical expertise, he worked on project finance, project appraisals and feasibility studies.
He served as expert witness in arbitration and worked with loss adjusters in the validation of insurance claims.
IHS
After the acquisition of Purvin & Gertz by IHS, Roberto continued to deliver the same services under IHS.
KBC
As a leader of the strategic consulting practice, Roberto managed several due diligence projects concerned with the acquisition of refineries and oil terminals. He also managed a large feasibility study for the integration of a petrochemicals complex at a Middle Eastern refinery.
At KBC, Roberto continued to work for loss adjusters in the validation of insurance claims.
Saudi Aramco
At Saudi Aramco, Roberto worked on the definition, optimization or evaluation of many refinery and petrochemicals projects.
He worked in collaboration with other corporate functions for the acquisition of refining and petrochemical assets or to develop international Joint Ventures.He conducted or managed technical and environmental due diligence studies on refining and petrochemicals assets. For this purpose, he led multi-disciplinary due diligence teams.
